Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) tightly integrate physical features, for sensing and actuating, with
cyber-features, for carrying out computation and for taking decisions, and, often, with network
connectivity. These devices are pervading all aspects of our lives and are the fundamental building
blocks of Industry 4.0. The acting capabilities of cyber-physical systems imposes on the one side novel
functionalities such has self adaptivity to deal with a changing environment and on the other
strict safety and security requirements for the cyber part. As a result, the design of cyber-physical system

is an extremely challenging task.

The Cross-layer modEl-based fRamework for multi-oBjective dEsign of Reconfigurable systems in
unceRtain hybrid environments (CERBERO) project is currently developing a design environment for
CPS based of two pillars: a cross- layer model based approach to describe, optimize, and analyze
the system and its different views concurrently; and an advanced adaptivity support based on a
multi-layer autonomous engine. Overcoming the limits of current tools, CERBERO provides a framework
of opensource tools to handle all the design phases of CPSs. The framework includes: libraries of
generic Key Performance Indicators for reconfigurable CPSs in hybrid/uncertain environments; novel
formal and simulation-based methods; a continuous design environment guaranteeing early- stage
analysis and optimization of functional and extra-functional requirements (such as energy,
reliability and security). The outcome of CERBERO are methodologies and tools to support such a
complex desgin chain. The potential of the toolchain for boosting the productivity of CPS and IoT
design, development, and deployment will be demonstrated by means of three cases of study dealing
with driving simulators, robots for space exploration and submarine drones.

We invite you to participate to a short event of approximately one hour where we will present the
results and the potential of the CERBERO toolchains. The event will be consists of three parts. The
first part will quickly introduce the main challenges related with CPS design and the foundation of
the CERBERO tool chain. In the second part, short demos will demonstrate the effectiveness of the
toolchain in the three cases of study addressed by the project. In the third part, the participants
will have the opportunity to browse other demos, play with the tool chains, and discuss the
potential benefit of the CERBERO toolchain in other cases of study of interests of the
participants.
