Innosuisse is the Swiss Innovation Promotion Agency which promotes science-based innovation in the interests of industry and society in Switzerland. It provides support in different ways.


The Innosuisse start-up training programme helps you develop your business idea, set up your company and implement a strategy for growth. There are four training modules led by experienced entrepreneurs all over Switzerland.

Module 1 – Business Ideas: Introductory event to entrepreneurship that offers the opportunity to set a first contact with the business world. Participating at those awareness raising events the participants will listen to motivational talks by successful young entrepreneurs and will have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas.

Module 2 – Business Concept: Semester course that provides the theoretical knowledge needed to set up a business, the basic notions for the preparation of a business plan specific for a start-up and all the information on the support offered in Ticino and Switzerland to the startups.
In Ticino it is organized by a consortium of representatives from USI, SUPSI and CP Start-Up.

Module 3 – Business Creation: 5 days intensive course offered as a sector-specific course for four clusters in different Swiss regions (ICT, Advanced Engineering, Biotechnology / MedTech, Social Entrepreneurship). It is aimed at entrepreneurs who are about to set up their own company or have recently started a new business. Strongly focused on the preparation of a business plan and elaboration of a business strategy.

Module 4 – Business Growth: 5 days intensive course offered as a sector-specific course for four clusters in different Swiss regions (ICT, Advanced Engineering, Biotechnology / MedTech, Social

Entrepreneurship). It is aimed at heads of already operating companies and enables the participants to analyse the barriers, opportunities and markets in their own sector and learn about the processes and structures that will help them further grow their company.



Innosuisse support start-ups and those interested in setting up a business with personalised coaching. The programme is divided into three stages:


Core Coaching: Evaluation of the economic viability of the business idea; support on strategy development, structuring of organisation and entering the market; legal advice.

Scale-up Coaching: Implementation of the company’s growth strategy; support with finding funding, networking and establishing a scalable process and organisational structure.



Innosuisse helps to fund innovation projects carried out by companies, private or public organisations in cooperation with research institutions.
Innosuisse covers the research partner’s costs, while the company provides at least the same amount of funding. The assessment of the application is primarily based on the degree of innovation, the scientific significance of the innovation, the market potential and the constribusion to the promotion of sustainable development.

Innosuisse innovation mentors help you to launch an innovation project together with a public-sector research partner. It is possible to apply for a Basic Support, a Support in finding the best partner, a Support in the application preparation and a Support to revise a funding application. is the online platform for young entrepreneurs, innovators and supporters. The hub increases the visibility of young Swiss companies and serves to highlight the diverse and vibrant start-up scene. The news portal provides daily information on company results, launch of innovations, growth, financing, exits, support services, events and award tenders. The most important news and events of the week from the start-up community are sent  out in a weekly newsletter. 

The AGIRE Foundation

AGIRE is Ticino’s platform for the transfer of technologies and knowledge. Its members are the Canton Ticino, the University of Southern Switzerland (USI), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), the Association of Ticino Manufacturers (AITI), the Ticino Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicraft and Services (Cc-TI), the local agencies for development (ERS) and the city of Lugano.

Active Measures Office

The Cantonal Law on Re-launching Employment and Support for the Unemployed is the legal basis providing incentives for hiring and training. is the national association of incubators and technology parks.


Founded in 2000, it today comprises about 40 members, including 27 full members hosting over 1'000 innovative companies, and a fast growing number of associated members.


The association pursues the following objectives for its members:

  • Develop networking activities for members and their tenants
  • Exchange on business models and methods / new initiatives
  • Consolidate information on start-ups across Switzerland
  • Evaluate impact of technology parks and incubators on Swiss economy
  • Act as Think Tank and link to political authorities, in order to be part of public debates about high tech start-ups and SME’s / business incubation
  • Act as counterpart of foreign organizations such as IASP (World), NBIA (USA), ADT (DE), Retis / CapIntech (Fr)


Since it was founded in 2002, TECHNOPARK®-Alliance has established itself as an effective channel for the transfer of technology. Comprising the TECHNOPARK® facilities in Aargau, Lugano, Lucerne, Schlieren, Winterthur and Zurich, it was organized as an association in April 2010. In terms of a virtual TECHNOPARK®, the Alliance increases awareness among political, technical, scientific and business circles of knowledge and technology transfer, promotion of innovation and emerging entrepreneurs, and optimizing conditions for start-ups and spin-offs.


Il Litorale is the name of the new initiative of Università della Svizzera italiana to bring the academic world closer to the business world and civil society. In the spaces set up at the Quartiere Maghetti, in the heart of the City of Lugano, a "community of practice" will be developed where students and academics will be able to joing the entrepreneurial, civil and cultural context in an friendly and informal environment, thus developping an ecosystem that creates value thanks to the effects of "territorial contamination".
